Monaco

W ubiegłym roku o tym czasie pracowałyśmy z Anią w Nicei. Spędziłyśmy tam trzy miesiące pomagając w organizacji jednego z lokalnych festiwali muzycznych. Wolny czas wykorzystywałyśmy na zwiedzanie Lazurowego Wybrzeża; intensywne kolory, przepiękne miasteczka i niezwykła przyroda nigdy nie przestawały nas zaskakiwać. Podczas pobytu we Francji kilka razy wybrałyśmy się też do Monako. Niesamowite miejsce, choć według wielu bardzo sztuczne. Oczywiście po części mają oni rację. Wraz z przekroczeniem granicy przenosimy się do zupełnie innego świata: jest tam aż przesadnie czysto i porządnie, w pięknych willach mieszkają bogaci ludzie jeżdżący ekskluzywnymi samochodami i odpoczywający na swoich olbrzymich jachtach :) Jednak mnie Monako urzekło swoim spokojem, przepięknymi widokami, wszechobecnymi włoskimi wpływami (w tym pizza, pizza, jeszcze raz pizza, no i lody :) ) i wystrzałowymi policjantami noszącymi Ray Bany.

Wydaje mi się, że jest to idealne miejsce na wakacje, ale jednocześnie zbyt surrealistyczne żeby tam zamieszkać. Jednak zdecydowanie polecam wszystkim chcącym zobaczyć coś zupełnie nowego i odjechanego. Z Nicei można tam dotrzeć miejskim autobusem, którego trasa prowadzi wzdłuż morza i rozpieszcza pasażerów magicznymi widokami :)  Niezapomniane przeżycie!

This time last year Anna and me were working in Nice, France. Actually, we spent there three months helping with the organisation of one of the local music festivals. We spent our free time travelling through French Riviera; intense colours, gorgeous villages and unbelievable nature never failed to amaze us. Also, we visited Monaco a couple of times. It’s an amazing but, according to many, a very artificial place. Surely they’re right to some extent. The moment you pass the border you step into a whole different world: it’s unduly clean and orderly and  apart from tourists, the only people who live there are filthy reach living in their extravagant villas, driving super new cars and relaxing on luxurious yachts :)  However, what I like most about this place is tranquillity, beautiful views, ever-present Italian influences (including pizza, pizza and pizza and of course ice cream :) ) and cool policemen wearing Ray Bans. 

For me, it’s a perfect place for holidays but at the same time too surrealistic to live there. However, I recommend it to everyone who wants to see something completely new. You can get there from Nice by bus which goes along the seaside and spoils its passengers with magical views :) Unforgettable feeling!

Poniżej znajdziecie kilka miejsc, które według mnie trzeba zobaczyć będąc w tym maleńkim księstwie.

Below you’ll find a couple of places which are, according to me, a must-see in this little city-state.

Pałac Princier

Pałac usytuowany w unikatowym miejscu i będący strażnikiem tradycji powstał w miejscu fortecy wybudowanej w 1215 roku. Jest on oficjalną siedzibą księcia Monako od 1297 roku.

Palais Princier 

Being the guardian of tradition the palace, situated in a unique location, it was built in place of the fortress established in 1215. It has been the official residence of the Prince of Monaco since 1297.

 

Palais de Justice

Pałac ten został wybudowany na początku 1924 roku i otwarty sześć lat później. Do jego budowy wykorzystano szary, porowaty kamień, z którego są zrobione również wały Monako. Składa się on z niezliczonych małych otoczaków i muszli małż.

Palais de Justice

This palace was built in the beginning of the year 1924 and inaugurated on 1 May 1930. During the construction works, the grey and porous stone from which the ramparts of Monaco are made, was used. The stone is composed of countless little pebbles and shells of molluscs.

Katedra

Zbudowana z białych kamieni z La Turbie, katedra ma styl romańsko-bizantyński. Jej budowa została ukończona w 1875 roku i od tamtej pory są w niej chowani władcy Monako.

Cathedral

Constructed of white stones from La Turbie in roman-byzantine style, the building was finished in 1875 and served as the home for deceased Princes. 

Ogrody Saint Martin

Są to przepiękne ogrody zwisające na południowo-wschodniej stronie legendarnego zbocza Monako. Turyści mogą spacerować wzdłuż grani po licznych ścieżkach i podziwiać bogactwo Morza Śródziemnego wraz jego egzotyczną fauną oraz odkrywać piękno natury. 

Saint-Martin gardens

The gardens which hung on the south-east side of the legendary Monaco Rock, are of a remarkable beauty. Visitors can wander along the paths meandering nonchalantly along the ridge, admire the plenteousness of Mediterranean and exotic flora and discover the beauty of nature.

 

Muzeum Oceanograficzne oraz Akwarium

Muzeum Oceanograficzne powstało w 1889 roku z inicjatywy ówczesnego księcia Monako, Alberta I. Dzięki niemu możemy poznać, pokochać oraz nauczyć się, jak chronić oceany. Tak jak chciał jego założyciel, muzeum jest całkowicie poświęcone sztuce i nauce, dwóm siłom napędowym cywilizacji. Jako, że jest ono całkowicie przychylne sztuce współczesnej, odbywa się w nim sporo wystaw takich artystów jak Damien Hirst, Huang Yong Ping, Mark Dion oraz Marc Quinn.

Musée Océanographique and Aquarium

The Oceanographic Museum was founded in 1889 by the Prince Albert I of Monaco. The museum offers a unique opportunity to know, love and protect oceans. Just as its founder wanted, it is completely devoted to Art and Science, two driving forces of the civilization. Moreover, it is open to contemporary art and displays the works of such artists as Damien Hirst, Huang Yong Ping, Mark Dion or Marc Quinn.

Teatr Fort-Antoine

Forteca zbudowana na początku XVIII wieku obecnie służy jako teatr na powietrzu.

Théâtre du Fort-Antoine

This fortress, built in the beginning of the 18^th century is today an open-air theatre. 

Port Hercule

Port Monako jest właściwie podzielony na dwie części: naturalną, noszącą historyczną nazwę „port Hercule” oraz port de Fontevieille. Całkiem niedawno starsza część została powiększona, co zwiększyło jendocześnie terytorium tego małego państwa. 

 

Port Hercule

The port of Monaco is in reality composed of two ports, a natural one bearing the historic name ‘port Hercule’, and port de Fontevieille. Recently, the first one made an extension of Monaco (finished in 2008) by building a floating concrete. 

Kasyno i Opera

Kasyno Monte Carlo jest prestiżowym barokowym kasynem usytuowanym w dzielnicy Monte Carlo. Zostało ono zbudowane w 1863 roku przez Charlesa Garniera, architekta słynnej paryskiej opery. Znane „Salons de Jeux” są udekorowane przepięknymi witrażami, rzeźbami i alegorycznymi obrazami. 

Casino et Opéra

The Casino of Monte Carlo is the prestigious baroque casino  situated in the quarter of Monte Carlo. It was constructed in 1863 by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Opera of Paris. The famous Salons de Jeux are marvelously decorated with stained glass windows, sculptures and allegoric paintings.

Ogrody Kasyna

Zaraz za kasynem znajduje się francuski ogród z terenem do gry w kule oraz fontannami, który styka się z ogrodem „la Petite Afrique”. Poniżej, słoneczne tarasy prowadzą do „l’Hexa Grace”, zapierającego dech w piersiach arcydzieła Victora Vasalery.

 

Gardens of the Casino

Beside the Casino, the French garden with its bowling-green and fountain jets meets the garden of la Petite Afrique with its lavish scenery. Below, the sunny terraces lead to l’Hexa Grace, the breathtaking colourful masterpiece of Vasalery.
